What is green doves?

Green doves (Treron species) are a group of medium-sized, arboreal doves found in Africa and Asia. They are generally 25-30 cm in length and weigh between 120 and 200 grams.

Green doves are named for their predominantly green plumage, which is often complemented by other colors depending on the species. Distinctive features include their curved bills and marked sexual dimorphism, with males typically having more colorful plumage than females.

They are primarily fruit eaters and can be found in various forest habitats, including primary and secondary forests, mangroves, and plantations. Green doves are generally territorial and nest in trees, constructing flimsy nests from twigs and leaves.

Several species of green doves are considered to be of conservation concern due to habitat destruction and hunting pressures. However, some species, like the Alexandrine parakeet, have become successfully established in urban areas.
